Dear Mount Vernon Community,
Last fall, the school year began amidst great uncertainty. Upon reflection, students, families, staff, and community partners are now able to join together and say “We made it - as a team.”
This year hasn’t been perfect. Our sincere appreciation to you for your flexibility, patience, and positivity through some of the most challenging times in recent history. The school board goal has always been and will remain to place what’s best for students and staff at the forefront of our decision making.
During this summer, the board and district will remain diligent with the planning to move forward in a positive and productive manner for a fresh start in the 2021-22 school year. We understand that the challenges this pandemic brought to the Mount Vernon School District community has had a significant impact. The focus will continue to be on supporting students’ learning and social emotional needs, and their health and safety. For today, let’s recognize a few bright spots from this year and remember how much has been accomplished.
The district’s nearly 7,000 students were engaged in learning all year, both remotely and in-person. September began with nearly 500 students with the greatest needs participating on site in our schools. That number grew until, by the end of the school year, we were serving over 5,500 students in-person. We were proud to say congratulations and farewell to our 376 graduating seniors. To support student learning, staff provided for families from the very beginning. This included serving 988,812 student meals, distributing close to 10,000 student Chromebooks, and safely transporting students’ 165,000 miles - including 92 field trips! Amidst the chaos, work remained steady on the high school campus remodel, staff was relocated, and classrooms were opened in the new high school Administration Building.
Thank you for entrusting your students to us. We wish you the best this summer and look forward to welcoming students back on September 1st.

El otoño pasado, el año escolar empezó en medio de una gran incertidumbre. Al reflexionar, los estudiantes, las familias, el personal, y los socios de la comunidad podemos unirnos y decir “Lo logramos - como un equipo”.
Este año no ha sido perfecto. Nuestro más sincero agradecimiento por su flexibilidad, paciencia, y positividad a través de uno de los tiempos más desafiantes en la historia reciente. El objetivo de la Junta siempre ha sido, y continuará siendo poner frente a todo lo mejor para los estudiantes y el personal en nuestras decisiones.
Durante este verano, la Junta y el distrito se mantendrán diligentes planeando el movimiento hacia delante en una manera positiva y productiva para el nuevo comienzo del año escolar 2021-22. Entendemos que los retos que esta pandemia trajo a la comunidad del distrito de Mount Vernon ha tenido un impacto significativo. El enfoque continuará siendo apoyar el aprendizaje de los estudiantes y necesidades socioemocionales, y su salud y seguridad. Por hoy, hay que reconocer algunos puntos positivos de este año y recordar cuanto se ha logrado.
Los casi 7,000 estudiantes del distrito estuvieron participando en aprendizaje todo el año, de ambos remoto y en persona. Septiembre empezó con casi 500 estudiantes con mayores necesidades participando en nuestras escuelas. Ese número creció hasta que al final del año escolar, brindamos servicios a más de 5,500 estudiantes en persona. Nos enorgullece decir felicidades y despedirnos de los 376 estudiantes graduados. Para apoyar el aprendizaje estudiantil, el personal proporcionó ayuda a las familias desde el principio. Esto incluyó servir 988,812 alimentos para estudiantes, distribuir cerca de 10,000 Chromebooks para estudiantes, y transportar con seguridad a los estudiantes por 165,000 millas - ¡incluyendo 92 excursiones! Entre medio del caos, el trabajo continuó firme con la renovación de la preparatoria, el personal fue reubicado y los salones fueron abiertos en el nuevo edificio de administración de la preparatoria.
