Gear Up

GEAR UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. GEAR UP is a program designed to help your student successfully complete middle school, graduate from high school, and to transfer and graduate from college.

The Mount Vernon School District was recently awarded a GEAR UP grant that will provide additional support services for our current 6th, 7th & 8th grade students. For the next seven years, in collaboration with the school staff and existing support services, our staff will be available to assist you and your student in planning your student’s academic future. We can help you and your student navigate through middle school, high school, graduation and ultimately to transition to meaningful work or a post secondary education.

Some of the available support services and opportunities will include mentoring, academic planning, career exploration, tutoring support, field trips/college visits, and events unique to the grant goals.

Our staff is looking forward to working with you and your student in the coming years!
